IONAS A/S is a
high-tech spin-off company from NKT Research Center specialising in the design and
manufacture of integrated optical components and DFB fiber lasers for multi-wavelength
telecommunications networks.
IONAS belongs to the Danish NKT group of companies. More than 5 years of research has been
performed between NKT Research Center (the research branch of the NKT group) and the
Mikroelektronik Center (MIC) at the Technical University of Denmark with the aim of
developing advanced integrated optical components. The collaboration was concluded
successfully by the end of 1996 and a large part of the know-how and personnel was
transferred to IONAS.
At the end of 1998 IONAS moved into Center for Advanced Technology (CAT), a science park
constructed as next-door neighbour to MIC and intended to support commercialisation of the
research carried out at their facilities. Currently IONAS consists of 20 employees headed
by Lars Rønn. We continue to enjoy a close collaboration with MIC.
