Vytran
Corporation was founded in 1989 for the purpose of developing,
manufacturing and marketing new technologies for optical fiber fusion splicing and related
applications. Vytran first developed a completely new method fusion splicing - termed
filament fusion.
This patented technology, combined with a novel fire polishing process, provides process
control capabilities unattainable with other fusion splicing methods.
Vytran followed up this technology with other pioneering innovations such as the
workstation approach to fusion splicing and the advancement of fiber proof testing and
recoating methods.
Recent Vytran developments include the introduction of an End-View Alignment system for
fully automated 4-axis positioning of PM fiber, and a Large Diameter Splicer for fusion
splicing and "glass processing" of fibers up to 1250 microns.
Vytran's unique product and technology base has been developed in response to the demands
of both production and specialty fiber splicing. Vytran is ideally positioned to address
the requirements of WDM system and components manufacturers, and continues to developed
additional technologies - such as automated erbium loss optimization - to further meet the
demands of this industry.
The advancement of the WDM market has contributed greatly to the recent growth of
Vytran.
In early 1998 Vytran moved its headquarter to a new 20,000 sq. ft. facility located in
Morganville, New Jersey. Vytran has also established an Engineering and Technology Center
in Exeter, England. Vytran will continue its commitment to producing high quality,
innovative products for optical fiber splicing.
The current product line includes:
· The FFS-1000 Automated Filament Fusion Splicing Workstation.
The FFS-1000 is a fusion splicing workstation designed to meet the demands of both
production and R&D splicing. All splicing procedures - strip, cleave, clean,
splice, recoat, and proof test - are logically integrated into a single, automated
system that produces consistent splices quickly and efficiently.
· The LDS-1250 Large Diameter Splicing System. The LDS-1250 extends the
capability of Vytran's filament fusion technology to the splicing of large diameter fibers
up to 1250 microns in diameter. This system is also a versatile "glass
processing" platform that can be used for many specialty fiber applications such as
tapering, drawing, lensing, coupling and thermal core expansion.
· The PT-25 Proof Tester/Tension Tester. The PT-25 provides a
portable, convenient method to determine the breaking strength of a fiber or to ensure
that a fiber or fusion splice meets a minimum strength requirement. The RC-100
Optical Fiber Recoater. The RC-100 restores the protective polymer coating to a fusion
spliced section of fiber, providing a compact, flexible alternative to standard splice
protection sleeves.
· The PTR-100 Optical Fiber Recoater and Proof Tester/Tension
Tester. The PTR-100 combines an optical fiber recoater and proof tester/tension tester in
one convenient, portable unit.
