Attolight Corp. releases
AttoReconstructor™ a unique new fibre Bragg grating design software for the FBG
industry
Montréal, Canada Attolight Corp., a company set up to provide advanced design tools and customized design/measurement software for optical fibre component manufacturers, annouces the release of AttoReconstructor, a highly accurate and efficient software for designing fibre Bragg gratings that computes the precise grating structure from the desired reflection and dispersion spectra.
Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) are one of the promising technologies for the implementation of various types of filters for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical fiber systems. It is especially usefull for the implementation of optical filters with steep amplitude response. This comes from the fact that no other filter technology allows for a large number of grating lines as optical fiber Bragg gratings. Telecom industry experts predict that FBGs will be a $1.3-billion market within three years.
Dr. Benoit Lussier, Attolight's CEO stated: “This is the first time that an algorithm is accurate enough to enable the design of most practical filters and efficient enough to complete most designs in less than 1 minute on a typical PC”.
It is based on an innovative algorithm developed by Dr Liang Dong, one of the founders, who has over 10 years of experience in fibre Bragg gratings, has published more than 150 papers in international journals and conferences and has been a program committee member for the Bragg Grating, Photosensitivity and Poling International Conference organized by the Optical Society of America.
“Attoreconstructor allows precise reconstruction, simulation of the reconstructed grating, chirp and bandwidth analysis", says Lussier, "and has applications for advanced WDM filter designs, precise GFF designs, Optical pulse shaper designs, Optical code division multiplexing encoder/decoder designs. We believe we are offering a unique product for Bragg grating designers that will speed up the development of new components and considerably shorten their time to market ”.
According to the founders, the first feedbacks from the fibre Bragg grating manufacturers are very promissing with a number of customers having expressed their interest for the product. Lussier adds “ So far we had very encouraging responses and some world famous technical leaders in the field have declared to be positively impressed with the product. We think it can also be a good tool for Universities and Research Centres for designing complex FBG structures”
