JDS Uniphase New CW Lasers Deliver High Power, Lowest Noise
DFB Source Lasers for DWDM at 40 and 50 mW feature narrow, 1 MHz linewidth

Ottawa, Canada and San Jose, California – JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSE: JDU) today announced a new family of high power continuous wave (CW) DWDM lasers for fiberoptic communications. These lasers offer cost savings for next generation metropolitan and long-haul architectures and provide the high performance needed by the emerging market for wavelength specific solutions in cable television (CATV) networks.

Next generation metropolitan and long-haul architectures that include high power lasers will allow greater distances between amplifier points, offering significant cost savings potential. In 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s long-haul applications, high power lasers can be used to compensate for the losses in more complex architectures.

CATV networks already use high power lasers for TDM applications and now need high power lasers for DWDM. To meet the demand for an increasing range of targeted offerings, CATV service providers are turning to dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) solutions, with specific wavelengths allocated for specific services. JDS Uniphase’s new CW DWDM lasers offer the high power, low relative intensity noise and narrow linewidths necessary for the CATV systems that provide these solutions.

These new lasers are available in 40- and 50-milliwatt (mW) versions (CQF935/708 and CQF935/ 808) without internal wavelength monitoring and a 40 mW version (CQF975/708) with an integrated wavelength monitor. The devices feature market-leading characteristics in relative intensity noise (- 160 dB/Hz maximum), narrow linewidth (1 MHz maximum), side-mode suppression ratios (typically 45 dB) and thermal stability (wavelength drift with case temperature better than 0.0001 nm/°C for the CQF975/708). The lasers are available at ITU 50 GHz for the entire C and L band and offer built- in thermoelectric coolers, and polarization maintaining fiber.

JDS Uniphase’s family of CW sources lasers now includes 2.5, 10, 20, 40 and 50 mW WDM lasers and 40, 50 and 63 mW TDM lasers.

Availability
The CQF 935/708, CQF 935/808 and CQF 975/708 are available for order from JDS Uniphase Representatives and Distributors worldwide. Standard lead-time is approximately 3-4 weeks after receipt of order. Please contact a JDS Uniphase representative for pricing information.
