JDS Uniphase Announces
Low Cost Optical Power and Wavelength Monitoring Solution Ottawa, Canada and San Jose, California
- JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSE: JDU) today announced its
Gain Equalization Monitor (GEM), a compact, low-cost addition to its
family of optical monitors for fiberoptic communication systems providers.
The GEM measures optical power and wavelength accurately for DWDM networks
that require remote monitoring. The need to control increasingly complex
networks, reduce downtime, lower operating costs and quicken response time
to system faults all contribute to the demand for optical monitoring. The
use of optical monitors, however, has been limited by their size and cost.
At approximately 120 x 82 x 17 mm, the GEM is one of the smallest optical
monitors, and its low list price compares very favorably to that of
comparable models. Its RS-232 and DPRAM electrical interface
ease integration with systems and its response time of <150 ms and
relative power accuracy of 0.5 dB meet the requirements of most
applications. The GEM covers the entire C-band at 100 GHz wavelength
spacing. An L-band model at 100 GHz is expected by May and a 50 GHz model
is planned for later in the year. Applications Availability For more information about this JDSU product: www.jdsu.com
