Extend backplane transmission speeds up to 5Gbps with adaptive  receive equalizer

SUNNYVALE, CA-June 26, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products builds upon its industry-leading adaptive equalizer portfolio by introducing the MAX3784 5Gbps PC board equalizer. Maxim's adaptive equalization algorithm, proven in the MAX3980 and MAX3981 XAUI equalizers, extends

the reach of transmission lines in backplane interconnect  applications up to 5Gbps. The MAX3784 is optimized for short run length, balanced NRZ codes such as 8b10b. Ethernet systems designed with 1.25Gbps or 2.5Gbps backplanes can achieve 0.18UI deterministic jitter performance of 40in at 5Gbps, effectively extending the life and upgradabililty of existing chassis installations.

Internally, the MAX3784 is comprised of an equalizer control loop and limiting output driver. The equalizer reduces intersymbol interference (ISI), compensating for frequency-dependent, media-induced loss in up to 40in of FR4. The MAX3784 has differential CML data inputs and outputs, and standby mode provides low-power operation when the part is not in use. The MAX3784 is available in a small 4mm x 4mm 16-pin QFN package and consumes only 185mW with a single 3.3V supply. Prices start at $10.95 (1000-up, FOB USA).
